Ile de bendor

Paul Ricard was a visionary entrepreneur, a builder, a patron of the arts, and also an artist.

He built up this island with his own plans and created a true hamlet with its shops, workshops, harbour and bar - where jazz filled the air a few years ago.

In this truly theatre decor, celebrities such as Dali, Fernandel, Raimu, Josephine Baker, Luis Mariano, Paul Belmondo, Melina Mercouri, Gagarine, Jacques Dutronc came to join the biggest parties of Var jet-set during the sixties.

Nowadays, in this many-celebrated « Jardin des Arts », visitors can have a swim or explore its underwater universe…before going to the opening of a gallery exhibition. They might admire the work of the artists or play tennis on the courts. They can also attend one of the regular congresses held on the island.

When the evening fell, when last orange rays of the twilight are fading, Bendor becomes more romantic…the stone of the eternal “Isola del Bandoris” turns from a yellow ochre of the evening to an alabaster white in the moonlight.

Bendor marina

The tiniest harbour of the Cote d’Azur: a depth of 2 meters and a surface area of 2,800 m².

Moorage is free for residents of the Hotel Delos and its outbuildings (Le Palais, Les Petites Villas).

The Botinelly monolith entitled “Nul bien sans peine ( no pain no gain )”, symbolises Paul Ricard’s philosophy and dominates the landing stage: the showpiece was erected in homage to Pierre Puget, a 17th century Provencal sculptor, painter and architect from whom Paul Ricard borrowed the motto.
